What Exactly Does ‘Leading Disruption’ Mean?

When I think about disruption from a leadership perspective, I think about disrupting the flow, making a fundamental change in someone’s thinking…I look for a place as a coach that one thing can change that will change neural pathways that will allow everything to change. This will allow my client to have disruptive thoughts in their own industry–to facilitate fundamental change in the people they lead, the products they oversee, and the thinking in their industry. The key to identifying this type of disruption is that it has changed how people live their lives.

Recently, I had a chance to interview Sam Nguyen & Hunter Smith and how they are disrupting traffic to protest climate change. They are dedicating their lives to gaining attention for their movement.

“We’re disrupting the leadership of how they’ve been told over and over. This is the way to affect change.”Sam Nguyen

I challenge everyone to rethink their approach and start thinking about what disruption means. Disruption is more than simply the creation of a new product; it is the re-imagination of an industry-wide framework in the form of a new product.

It is made possible by the creative friction between a single innovator and all competition, which industry incumbents then embrace as they try to boost their game. And it creates entire industries that were previously unimaginable.

What is the thinking inside yourself that you need to start disrupting today? How will this help to disrupt the world?
